Krishi Vigyan Mandal (KVM)
A district level informal group of progressive and innovative farmers voluntarily come
together at KVK to hold a meaningful seminar on need based topics on 5th day of every
month from 1997.
It is a regular event without any discontinuity.
The registered members from Jalna and adjoining districts involve in this seminar to
fulfill their technological needs with the support of KVK and experts of reputed scientific,
institutes including SAUs. Each seminar is sponsored by an individual member or a
small group of members voluntary with mutual understanding.
Watershed Management
KVK has developed three model watersheds namely
and to address the issue of water scarcity
and frequent drought in the district.
People’s active involvement
and support of host organization
with funding agencies has a major contribution behind the success of these watersheds.
It is a regular event without any discontinuity.
Thousands of farmers and other stake holders visit these watersheds every year.
Kadwanchi is now recognized as village of grapes and plastic farm ponds as
there are more than 1200 acres of grapes and 500 plus plastic lined farm ponds
in the village as an impact of watershed activities.
Treatments like peripheral bunds, water disposal through ceramic pipe spillways
and check dams are found more useful along with other treatments on ridge to valley concept.
Shivni watershed is as well known example of water budgeting model at state and national level.
The overall income of all these villages is increased by many fold compare to pre-watershed work.
Integrated Management in Cotton
More than 70% area in the district is under cotton crop.
Use of Bt. Cotton hybrids, wider spacing and excessive use of nitrogen
fertilizers demanded the need of IPM technologies
in very beginning of the KVK inception.
The IPM activity is implemented as a mass extension programme
at village level with farmers’ participation.
The concept of optimum plant population, need based fertilizer
use and ETL based plant protection measures are now well adopted by farmers.
More than 5000 acres of area is brought under IPM in KVK adopted villages.
Better Cotton Initiative and Online Pest Monitoring System is the advance steps
of IPM programme with the support of WWF-India and NCIPM, New Delhi respectively.
